The MTA's most recent legislative update provided helpful information on why Townships need to obtain appropriate licensing for the public performance of music and how appropriate licensing can be obtained from ASCAP & BMI.  This page fails to list some of the alternative methods and sources of music, that may provide Townships with either reduced cost or free music. Another year is closing in on us as the leaves on the trees change to beautiful arrays of color and the cool weather moves in. As a lifelong Michigander I am familiar with the winter doldrums. With a preference to staying indoors rather than venture out on a cold winter day, I begin to move at a slower pace and I sometimes get depressed. This is so common in the Midwest and across New England. But we don't have to mope around and accept that the weather is the cause. We can still keep our minds busy even if we are sitting at home waiting out the weather, because we have social networking available.  [more]

The other day we decided to go out for a family drive.   Actually we were looking for a computer to replace the one that we had given to our daughter as a Christmas present.   Unfortunately her computer stopped working just a month after we purchased it, but that is a story for another day.

There are a lot of people talking about Consolidation as a method of reducing the cost of local government. These discussions frequently focus on consolidating functions like Police, Fire, Public Works, etc.

It's understandable why people focus on these areas, as they represent 80% of the potential savings available from consolidation. The challenge is, because of the role of organized labor, they require tremendous amounts of political capital, time and energy to try and achieve. [more]
